Bruce Gordon Steps Down as Head of NAACP

I, myself, have wondered what the role of the NAACP is during this time in our nation. What direction is it going in? Too many chiefs and not enough Indians....that can be a problem. I agree with Bruce Gordon, who stepped down as president of the NAACP. Its one thing to be an advocate but the NAACP needs to provide the services for the community. One of his examples was advocating equal opportunity in employment and fair wages and THEN educating the black community on personal financial responsibility, the importance of credit ratings, investment, etc.

Smoking Pot Before Kindergarten

I knew I wanted to create a new blog but I wasn't sure if I wanted it to concentrate on politics or black issues. MSNBC on the the television and up pops a homevideo of toddlers smoking pot with their family members. Kids with pot in their mouths and their 17-year old uncle with the cigartette lighters making it possible. I'm assuming these kids aren't smoking pot because they have Alzheimer's, glaucoma, AIDS or cancer.

So that sealed it. I knew I wanted to talk about people who look like me. Now whether they act like me is a different matter all together. I constantly talk about the struggles blacks have to face in order to succeed but our biggest battle is against those who look just like us--and I don't mean Armstrong Williams, Alan Keyes and Clarence Thomas.

What a warped a mind someone must have to stick a marijuana joint in the mouth of a child and tell them to light up. Thats just great, screw them up before they have a chance. You can debate the issue of whether pot is a dangerous drug but thats not the point. Put pot in a kid's mouth at 2 and 5 and you don't think thats going to lead to more drugs and deviant behavior? Hell, on the pace they are on they will be smoking crack at 8 and having sex at 9.

And I'm hard pressed to believe the family doesn't know this 17-year old is a bad example around kids.
